Berringa’s 100% Australian Manuka Honey is a medium strength, antibacterial manuka honey with a Methylglyoxal (MGO) reading of 220+. It contains natural enzymes and antioxidants and can be eaten straight from the jar. It is perfect as an additive for foods and drinks, or it can be taken by itself (we recommend between 1-3 spoons daily).
Berringa’s 100% Australian Manuka Honey is a mild strength bioactive manuka honey with a Methylglyoxal (MGO) reading of 60+. It is perfect for everyday use and comes in an easypour jar. It contains natural enzymes and antioxidants and can be eaten straight from the jar.
This honey is unique to Australia and sourced from the Leptospermum polygalifolium bush, which grows in a variety of coastal habitats along the north coast of NSW, and Southern Queensland. The Methylglyoxal (MGO) readings of these manuka honeys, measures their antibacterial and antimicrobial activity.
Antibacterial activity measurement of Manuka honey: UMF vs MGO
Manuka honey comes packaged with antibacterial activity measurement labelled on the jar. In this case it is MGO 60+. These numbers can be confusing, because there are different measurement systems in use!
MGO (or methylglyoxal) is a globally recognised measure of antibacterial activity. Berringa uses this proven measurement methodology to grade and verify the actual MGO activity levels for each batch using independent testing at NATA accredited laboratories.
UMF (unique manuka factor) is another system of measurement for antibacterial activity. While most countries use MGO as the standard measurement, UMF is usually associated with some Manuka honey products from New Zealand.
